Transitional abstracts are very similar to mixed media abstracts in the materials used. I usually create these pieces utilizing gesso forms, hand gilding of metal leaf, organic materials, alkyd oil and metallic powders. My definition of "Transitional Abstract" is a mixed media painting with representational imagery contained within the abstract design. Some of the representational imagery may be hinted at or implied, but not clearly described.
